From 1991 to 2016, the proportion of processed cotton fabrics increased year by year, from 3% to 51%. There are currently more than 70 companies in the textile industry, producing different types of cotton yarn, cotton cloth, terry cloth, blended fabrics, knitted fabrics and finished products sewn from these cloths. Turkmenistan’s textile industry cooperates with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, and Mitsubishi Corporation (Japan) to promote advanced and efficient technology and equipment to ensure the production of high-quality, market-competitive products. Turkmenistan’s textile enterprises are equipped with advanced equipment from world-renowned foreign companies, such as Rieter (Switzerland), Trutzschler, Schlafhorst, Zincer, Monfrost, Kusters (Germany), Marzoli, Mario, Crosta, Reggiani, Arioli, Savio (Italy), Juki, Muratec, Tsudakoma (Japan), Picanol (Belgium), Monarh (UK), etc.

In 2013, the second phase of the bedding production project of the Ashgabat Textile Complex was put into operation. In 2014, the gold cotton yarn mills in Seguin, Turkmenabat and Kunyar were put into operation. In February 2016, at the base of Ashgabat Cotton Yarn United Company, a sock production workshop (with a production capacity of 2.5 million pairs per year) equipped by Lonati (Italy) was put into operation. At the beginning of the year, the sweater production workshop (capacity 23,000 pieces/year) equipped by ShimaSeiki Company (Japan) was put into operation. From 2000 to 2015, cotton yarn output increased by 2.4 times, and cotton cloth output increased by 4 times.

More than 70% of textiles are exported to the United States, European countries, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, China, the Baltic countries and other countries. From 2000 to 2015, the export volume of textile products increased by 3.2 times. The main orderers of its finished products are IKEA, Sears, Wall-Mart, MissErika, FootLocker and other world brands.
